Designed in collaboration with interior designer Sean Symington, the Penny ottoman combines classic British upholstery with signature valance detailing.

Built as a large rectangular footstool or coffee table ottoman, it features a fully upholstered flat top, crisp contrast edge piping, and a continuous hand tailored scalloped skirt along all four sides.

Each frame is constructed in Derbyshire using sustainably sourced European beech and birch hardwood, joined with traditional glued, screwed, and doweled techniques. The top is deeply padded for structure and comfort, making it suitable for seating or serving as a central coffee table base.

Fabric Options

Please note: your Penny ottoman is sold without fabric. You're welcome to supply your own—just email us at hello@thehouseupstairs.co.uk and we’ll share our address.
Or, if you’d like a little help from our design team, we offer a fabric sourcing service for £75. We’ll send you unlimited suggestions, plus swatches delivered straight to your door to help you find the perfect match.
You’ll need 4 metres of fabric for our standard sized Penny. To estimate fabric cost, simply multiply the required meterage by the fabric’s retail price per metre.

Size

Our standard sized Penny ottoman is 125cm (l) x 65cm (d) x 38cm (h), however if you'd like a bespoke size to fit your space please email us at hello@thehouseupstairs.co.uk for a free quote.

Each piece of our furniture is handmade to order by a skilled upholsterer with over 40 years of experience, in the heart of Derbyshire; a region with a rich heritage in British upholstery. Crafted with care and expertise, these are timeless pieces of exceptional quality, built to last for years to come.

Shipping and Lead Times

Your Penny will be ready to ship in approximately 10 weeks. Shipping times may vary depending on your location. Please note, for custom sizes or if you're providing your own fabric, the lead time begins once we’ve received the fabric.

We offer white glove delivery in the UK, and yes—we ship worldwide! For international shipping quotes, just drop us a line at hello@thehouseupstairs.co.uk.

We offer a 2 man white glove delivery service with unpacking.

Please contact us for EU and international shipping rates enquiries but are also calculated at checkout.

Stock items leave our premises in 2-3 days from purchase unless stated. Fulfilment time on made to order purchases (this includes all furniture) varies and is listed in product descriptions.

Please note we do NOT calculate, include or collect any import taxes or duties for non-UK purchases. Where applicable these are payable to the relevant courier company who collect them on behalf of your local tax authority and are your responsibility.
